Family Ties: A Connection to Tennessee's Past

Joe Nashville’s roots run deep in Tennessee soil, dating back to the 1700s. His ancestry weaves a colorful tapestry of English Isles, French, and Native American heritage, reflecting the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the state’s history.

One remarkable link in Joe’s genealogical chain connects him to Chief Black Fox, also known as Enola, who was born around 1743 in what is now East Tennessee. Chief Black Fox played a significant role in Cherokee-American relations during the Cherokee-American wars. He was known for his leadership and conciliatory approach in dealing with European settlers, which led him to sign the Treaty of Holston in 1791, an attempt to quell the bloodshed in East Tennessee.

Joe’s connection to William Abraham Cooper, a Revolutionary War veteran and a companion of Daniel Boone, adds another layer to his Tennessee heritage. Cooper’s heirs received land northeast of downtown Nashville after his death, and Joe is a direct descendant.

In the annals of the Civil War, the name David ‘Tinker Dave’ Beaty shines brightly. Beaty, a cousin of Joe’s several times removed, served as a Captain in the Volunteer Union Forces in Tennessee. He led a band of men known for their guerrilla tactics, the Tennessee Independent Scouts, who fought valiantly against Confederate forces in the Upper Cumberland Plateau region, just two hours east of Nashville. Beaty’s bravery during and after the war, including his testimony against Confederate guerrilla Champ Ferguson for war crimes, is a testament to his courage and dedication.

Sgt. Alvin Cullum York, another legendary figure in Joe’s family tree, hailed from the Valley of the 3 Forks, not far from Nashville. York’s heroic actions during World War I, where he captured 132 German soldiers with only his rifle and sidearm, earned him international acclaim. Beyond his wartime heroics, York’s strong Christian beliefs led him to become a pacifist, and he established a school in his home county of Fentress County, Tennessee, to provide education to mountain children—an enduring tribute to his legacy.

These remarkable family connections and the shared history of Tennessee add depth and resonance to Joe Nashville’s mission of showcasing the rich heritage of Music City. you don’t just see Nashville, you experience it firsthand.
